Everything About Detective Conan:
Summary Three
In this special session I must apologize because it only covers about one
volume of the Conan manga, but it is the best one I
thought I should do it as thorough as I can... I think
15 pages in Verdana, 10 font, single space should cover it ^^.
We begin with a case I
usual call “Conan Shot” and in this situation it’s
like one of those DBZ titles that just gives away the
story line. But aside from that let’s begin.
It starts with Ran
practicing her lines, with Kogoro’s help, for the school play. Turns out Sonoko
wrote the script and basically Conan and Kogoro are
writing it off until they realize there’s a scene where the princess gets
kissed. Conan asks Ran who’s going to play the knight
and she smiles and bends down to ask “You’re really concerned about who’s the
knight aren’t you Conan-kun?”
“Maybe just a little...”
Turns
out the knight is
Dr. Araide, all the boys were to shy because Ran was chosen to be the Princess
and the part for the prince is really similar to how Shinichi acts. Anyway Ran realizes it’s late and wants to take a bath.
Problem is the shower is broken and it’s Sunday so
everywhere is closes. Conan says they can go to Agasa’s
house and take baths there. Kogoro tells them not to bother the professor so
late and take a quick one together. Ran immediately yells a her father (big
head drawing) and saves face by saying it’s not good
to teach Conan-kun things like that at his age. Conan-kun isn’t
exactly convinced.
Skip to Agasa’s house and while Ran is in the bathroom, Conan is
talking with Agasa explaining that Ran has been acting different recently, not
how someone would usually treat a 7 year old. Agasa is worried but Conan
brushes it off until Ai comes up behind him and says “Maybe
she’s figured out who you are,” and then tells them that she is doing
very important work in the lab downstairs and to not disturb her. Ai leaves and
Agasa says to Conan “What if Ai is right?” Conan scoffs a bit and replies with
a “If she knows why doesn’t she say so?” Just then Ran comes in and all
conversation is stopped. Ran wonders where Ai is and Agasa tells her she’s
downstairs. Ran walks off saying she’ll play with her
and Conan is trying to stop her. Ran goes in saying “Hi Ai-chan!” and trails off as she sees the girl in front of
the computer typing. Agasa tells Ai that she should respond but Ran says it’s all right and that she’ll see Ai later. (At this point
in the series Ai has never introduced herself to Ran
and constantly ignores her.) After Ran leaves Ai continues typing thinking to
herself “Maybe I’m running away from it...Don’t be joking!”
while she looks at the floppy disks she retrieved (see Ai’s first appearance,
apparently they found them in the last file of the case, but besides the one of the APTX info another had pictures of Akemi on it.)
From there it turns into
a kids case with Ayumi, Mitsuhiko and Genta singing “Mune
ga Doki Doki” (DC
first opening song) on their way camping. While Ai and Agasa set up the tent, Conan and the kids go to get
firewood. Of course they just have to find a cave with
a riddle in front. Automatically the kids think “TREASURE” and
Conan teases them with a fake analysis of the riddle. But
before he can stop them they are running into the cave looking for treasure. Conan finds a
cigarette as they go in deeper and starts thinking there are other people in
the cave. They see a light up ahead, and worried that someone has already found
the treasure Genta runs forward, only to witness the scene of people trying to
dump a guy with a hole in his head. He screams and
runs back to the others but one of the men follows Genta and pulls out a gun.
Conan covers the kids and is shot in the back while
trying to get them to escape. They hide, and Conan keeps the children quiet,
until they notice he’s bleeding. Conan tries to
contact Ai using the Detective Boys Badge but she left it in her bag. As Conan’s fainting he hints the kids toward a way out. It’s up to them to solve the rest. As they are running out
to the exit however, Genta, who is carrying Conan, trips and the leader of the
burglary ring grabs Conan as a hostage. As Ayumi and Mitsuhiko are really worried for Conan, lights come on behind them at the
exit. It’s Megure and the police who were already in
the area looking for the robbery suspects when Ai and Agasa called them. Conan
wakes up long enough to stun the guy holding him.
Conan is rushed to BeikaHospital,
the gun shot wound is near the kidney so he bled a lot. The scene turns from Ai
explaining that to Kogoro to Ran running next to the stretcher rolling Conan
along, begging him to wake up. Suddenly, just as they are about to take him
into surgery it’s discovered his blood type isn’t in
stock. It would take too much time to rush him to another hospital.
Ran demands that they use
her blood, sure that his blood type and hers are the same. Conan wakes up
enough to hear it... Kogoro and Agasa are shocked, unsure how Ran is so sure
that his blood type and hers are the same. Ai’s eyes narrow,
and Conan thinks to himself “So you already know...”
Conan goes into surgery
and Ran sits outside waiting holding her arm... thinking of Shinichi.
And
that is where
that case ends.
The next case is referred to often in the fandom and is usually called “Desperate
Revival” or “Shinichi’s Rebirth.” (I note that some things maybe incorrect on
something’s because the scans were from a Chinese text but I’ll do my best ^^)
It begins with Conan
coming out of surgery on the stretcher. It skips to the next morning when Conan
wakes up. It still hurts but not badly. He is startled to see Ran sleeping at
the end of his bed with Kogoro’s jacket over her shoulders. Kogoro comes in and
in his gruff way tells Conan to get better. It skips to about ten days later.
The doctor tells Ran and Sonoko that Conan will be able to go home in a couple
of days but that he’s caught a cold because of how
weak he was after the surgery. The kids are visiting Conan and showing him a
hand-held video game which Sonoko takes away when they have
to go home and Conan back to his room. In three days is when the play is
going to be. It’s set that Kogoro will help out that
day. Sonoko asks Ran if she’s told Shinichi and that
since she’s going to be the princess he’s got to rush back and see her. Ran
says that Shinichi won’t, but Ran says it doesn’t
matter...As long as Conan-kun can come it’ll be all right. Ran asks Conan if he
will be able to come. Conan replies, stuttering he will. Sonoko senses
something sappy and asks Ran if she’s taking her love
of Shinichi and putting it on the kid. Ran asks Sonoko what
the heck is she talking about. Conan notices a bandage around Sonoko’s
wrist. Turns out she sprained her wrist and won’t be
able to be the knight for the romantic scenes...which means Dr. Araide will be
the knight for the whole play.
Conan starts sulking but
becomes worried as he hears voices arguing coming from his room... guess who it
is ^^.
“Aho! Lilies symbolize a beheading! It’s bad luck! We came to visit a sick patient!”
“Why didn’t you say so
earlier?! Aho!”
It’s the Kansai couple coming to visit
Conan. Heiji tells Kazuha to go buy better flowers then, and take Neechan (what
he calls Ran) and Sonoko-kun with her because she’ll
end up lost. Conan immediately asks Heiji why he’s
there. Turns out Agasa called Heiji and asked him to talk with Shinichi about
how Ran has almost figured out his identity. Conan climbs into bed and says it’s already figured out and that there were so many signs
that she knew. But of course there is one thing that
Conan doesn’t understand, “If she knows, why doesn’t she say anything?”
Heiji gives a great line
there and I hope that is the real line... “The
spectator sees the chess board better than the players. There is only one
reason for her to find out the truth and not tell you... She is waiting for you
to tell her first.”
(Gotta compliment Ran’s strength to not just jump at
Shinichi (Conan size) and ask him... She’s patient and
understands that there must be some reason why he is not telling her he is
Conan.)
Heiji thinks he should
just tell her. Conan argues that she’ll just take his pain
and worry and cry even more, but with how alert she is Conan fears he
might not be able to keep his secret and it would be easy to tell her
everything. He asks Heiji what he would do...
Heiji doesn’t
know.
We get a scene of a black
figure moving through the hospital and stealing Potassium Cyanide.
Conan is thinking to
himself what he should do...and after thinking of all what everyone has ever
told him he decides he’ll tell her. He’s
startled as he hears the click of a gun...that Haibara is holding...
She tells him her
identity has been revealed by the men in black,
someone else was there. The organization was told that
the drug could grant youth. Ai thought she was going to die but they want her
instead to continue the research on the APTX. She had
to kill Shinichi, his parents and Heiji would be captured
tomorrow, and Agasa is being held hostage. She’s done
what she could already.
The gun goes off.
Conan stares awkwardly at
the bouquet of roses that pop out of the gun.
“What would you do?” she
asks him, “If it were just as I told you. They would kill everyone who knew.”
Ran would be a target in
other words, if he obeys his emotions and tells her. Ai tells him telling Ran
would be the easiest thing to do. His other option is to ignore her. Or his last one is to….
The pages skip to the
play and the theater is filling up. Ran is nervous but is happy to see Kazuha
there. She asks him where’s Heiji and Kazuha tells her that he didn’t come. Kazuha asks Ran if she invited Shinichi and Ran
says she didn’t. Conan, wearing a gauze mask and
Kogoro then join them. Kogoro complains that the kid is still sick but Conan
tells Ran that he’s all right. Then Araide asks Ran
for help on the last line and Ran goes over to talk with him. Conan excuses
himself to get a seat. Ran looks a little disheartened as Conan walks away...
The scene then turns to a
woman, Hongshang, who just bought drinks for her
friends. Sangu (a large man) thanks her. She passes
him all the drinks and tells them she’s going to the
restroom though there is only a minute left until the play begins. Them consists of Sangu and a blond
woman named Yemai. (Going by Chinese names here sorry
^^*) As she hurries off her friends pass out the drinks. Sangu
got a Oolong tea, Yemai got
a Lemon Juice, and both Hongshang and the last friend
Genping got a cold coffee. Genping
opens his drink and looks over to the counter where everyone is buying drinks.
He looks at a girl names Qanju, who is a third year
student (senior) at Teitan high. Just then the lights go down and the play begins.
It goes with Ran asking
Zeus why she has to be treated terribly or accept a
condemned marriage. Kogoro does something embarrassing skip to backstage.
Sonoko starts going
through the curtain saying Doctor the play has started, he’s up soon so he
should get ready...she trails off as she gets a good look at him.
Princess Ran’s carriage is being attacked. Ran has to
pretend she can’t defend herself, mind you this doesn’t
stop Kazuha from yelling out to Ran that she should use her karate. Suddenly
dark feathers drop onto the stage and as choreographed the Black Knight (yay Black Knight!) saves Princess Ran. Kazuha is absolutely
gushing over how cool it looks. The “captors” retreat and Ran says
her lines.
“You’ve saved me not once
but twice now.”
Suddenly the Knight pulls
her to him, his arms around her picking her up off the floor. Ran whispers “Doctor,
this isn’t in the script…”
Down in the audience
Kogoro is throwing a protective father tantrum while Kazuha is holding him
back. Conan is watching the stage intently until a figure with a hair like Kudo
Shinichi’s, covered by a baseball cap sits down next
to him.
On stage, Ran looks off
stage to see Sonoko holding a sign saying “Keep Going!”
surrounded by girls who look like they are watching a romantic film. Ran, a
true professional, improvises based on what was supposed to happen then.
“Are you Spade?... If you remember our childhood promise, please prove it...on
my lips.”
And Ran closes her eyes just after
placing herself perfectly for him to kiss her, a soft blush playing on her
cheeks.
And just as their lips
are coming closer and closer, about to meet –
When a
scream rings out in the audience.
The murder victim, is 27 year old Genping who
works as a doctor. He was watching the play when he collapsed in pain. Takagi,
who is there investigating with Megure, asks if it could have been something in
his beverage. Yemai, who was sitting next to Genping, says she was watching the play so she isn’t sure if he collapsed after almost finishing his drink.
Megure asks Yemai for the time that he collapsed and
because the play started at 2 and the scream
interrupted the climax of the play, so Ran says it was about 2:40. She turns to
the doctor in the knight costume to confirm, he nods.
Takagi, who is with Megure, realizes that since it’s
Ran’s school “that mister” must have come. Kogoro starts looking
around asking Megure just who is he looking for. Megure replies that they were
talking about him,
and to himself Megure thinks that Kogoro is a jinx, having murders following
him everywhere. (Actually we all know its Shinichi
that they follow! ^^) Megure asks Kogoro if anyone came near the body, Kogoro
assures him that no one has touched the body before the examiner. Takagi asks
the examiner as he’s getting up what is the cause of
death. We then get a panel of a voice saying “Potassium cyanide.” It
is the young man in the cap that sat down next to Conan. He goes one to explain
how he knows without
touching the body. Then they start asking him who he is, he turns to Ran asking
if she’s already forgotten him. He takes off his hat,
and it’s Kudo Shinichi! And
Ran’s looking at him asking herself can it really be him, when Kazuha comes up
behind Kudo and asks “Heiji what are you doing?” He was wearing makeup
to lighten his skin color but as he did nothing about his eyebrows well it’s
easy to see...so he’s found out and Kogoro’s and Megure’s
heads get really big and scary in one panel asking him if this is supposed to be some kind of joke.
Heiji says he wanted to shake up everyone...but he wanted to help Shinichi fool
Ran.
They continue
investigating and they then start questioning the girl who bought the drinks Hongshang. Sangu tells them that
he didn’t hand Yemai the
drinks but Yemai took them out of the tray herself. Yemai asks him what’s the
difference? Takagi then steps in to stop their bickering and asks what is their relation. Turns foursome (one now dead) were in the
drama club together when they went to Teitan High
back in the day. Sangu and Yemai
can’t believe that Genping
is dead, especially when his doctorate was about to receive recognition. Kogoro
asks Hongshang why she was the only one to go get the
drinks. She replies that Genping was going to help
her but after looking forward to the front of the line he went to his seat
pale. Then the girl who had been selling and preparing the drinks, Qanju, says its because she was
there. She’s their bosses daughter. Heiji decides then
to announce if someone messed with the drinks it is one of them
- Qanju, Sangu, Yemai or Hongshang.
Hongshang brings up the fact that she had
the same drink as Genping, if she were the one to put
poison in the drinks they could have easily have been mixed
up. Sangu and Yemai
claim that they just passed the drinks so their could be no time to slip in
something, and the only drink Sangu held on to was Hongshang’s while she went to the bathroom. Megure tells
them that they must have had to open the tops to know the drink was theirs. Sangu and Yemai say that you don’t have to because the drinks have labels and the ice
coffees come with crème and sugar packs. Kogoro says
that you can just prepare poisoned packs. Yemai
argues then he would have died instantaneously, but Genping
practically finished his drink. Takagi then discovers unused crčme and sugar in
his pocket. Qanju says it’s
because the drink wasn’t iced coffee but coke. She wanted to talk to him and
making have to come see her because his drink was
wrong would be a good way, she wanted him to ask her why she called off the
engagement.
Kogoro and Megure then whisper to themselves it must be suicide, the vengeful ex wanting
to pin it on his ex-fiancé. Hongshang then brings up the fact that Genping
was acting odd when they arrived and was looking for something in the car.
Takagi and them go out to see the car, it is raining
outside, but Hongshang doesn’t put on the hood of her
shirt. Heiji then takes the opportunity to whisper to Conan if he’s figured it out. Behind them
the Black Knight is looking out of the window. Heiji starts thinking about it
and Conan walks away. Then we get a shot of Sonoko looking outside, sad that
the rain came and theat the play was
interrupted. “It’s a shame, right doctor Araide?” who
is not wearing the knight outfit. Switch scenes to the person who is wearing the Black
Knight costume. He looks as something and smirks to himself.
Takagi and the rest run
inside saying they found cyanide near the dash board,
it looks like suicide. Megure agrees. Suddenly the Black Knight speaks up.
“No it wasn’t suicide. It
was a very simple elementary murder.”
Ran looks at the knight
in surprise as he is walking forward...past her.
“Yes Mr. Genping was poisoned,” continues the Knight, “In
front of this ebony stage, by someone who took advantage of his insignificant
little habit. And the murderer is still holding the evidence.”
He removes his helmet and
says, “If my deduction of this crime is indeed the truth.”
And standing there, freaking out
Takagi and Megure, as well as all of his classmates is the real Kudo Shinichi. (^^ yay yay yay!)
Heiji even has a heart
attack and Ran is saying to herself it can’t be and
looks between Conan standing behind her and Shinichi who’s in front of her. The
school starts cheering for him. He looks behind him and frowns with a finger to
his lips to silence them.
“Be quiet,
celebrate after the curtain of this bloody stage closes.”
Insert shot of Sonoko
and Araide looking from back stage saying he’s still such a cocky punk. Ran
steps forward...
“Shinichi? Is that really you?”
“Idiot what are you
talking about?”
The last panel on that
page is him whispering in her ear, “I have something
important to tell you later, don’t go away.”
Then Shinichi turns to
Heiji and asks him if he has a ten-yen coin. Heiji immediately turns behind him
and knows what Shinichi knows. He hands Shinichi the coin with a grin on his
face. Megure comes up behind Shinichi and tells him what has happened and that
they think it is suicide. Shinichi interrupts him and tells them that the
murderer committed murder by putting the poison in the ice. The poison will
only leak out when the victim has almost finished his drink...Megure then tells
Shinichi if that were the case they would have found
poison in the cup, which they wouldn’t. Shinichi then brings up the fact that
the lid was open when they found him. Kogoro says he might have squeezed it off
as he was struggling in pain. Megure instantly calls him an idiot and says that
the cup would have been bent out of shape. Shinichi
then says there is only one reason why a person takes off the lid of a cup when
the drink is finished.
“Mr. Genping
didn’t drink the poison, but ate it.”
Kogoro is confused but
Takagi (yay Takagi) catches on quickly.
“People who like to eat
the left over ice-cubes when they finish the drink!...
Inspector you like to chew on them too!”
(I couldn’t
chew on ice after reading this one for a few weeks ^^*)
Kogoro, trying his best
not to acted impressed, (or he really isn’t) then asks
who put in the poison.
Shinichi agrees that Sangu and Yemai didn’t have time to put in the poison. Ms. Qanju filled the cups but if it’s
true that she wanted to talk to him she wouldn’t have killed him. Besides,
after she handed them the drinks there would only be a 50% chance that the
poisoned cup would have gone to Genping.
That means that the
person who killed Genping by poisoning the ice was Hongshang. She bought the drinks so she would have the
opportunity to say she put in the milk and sugar. But
when she realized it was coke she left that caps on top and waited for the show
to almost start so Genping wouldn’t have the chance
to exchange his drink.
She carried the ice with
dry ice in a coin purse. She threw away the dry ice in the bathroom, in the
sink or toilet, and threw away the change purse outside.
After Shinichi is done
explaining this she says that if that were true she
only had a 50% chance of the drink to go to Genping.
Shinichi tells her, no
she had a 100% chance of killing him by putting the poison in both cups.
Megure then asks “how is it possible if she finished her drink too.”
Shinichi then explains
that she’d be fine if she finished her drink before
the ice melted. And what if she put the ice in her
mouth, and in the darkness of the theater hid it somewhere on her.
He tosses the coin into
the air as Heiji pulls open the hood of Ms. Hongshang’s
shirt. Heiji then takes out the coin after a few seconds and the coin comes out
shiny and clean.
Shinichi knew she had it
hidden in her hood because of the rain...when she didn’t
put on her hood.
She admits she killed
him, because he was an unfit doctor. He misdiagnosed a patient that
contradicted his doctorate, and the patient became very ill. She thought he was
a horrible man after he told her “I who can control the life of a man was
dumped by a little girl. What a stupid world.”
She turns to Shinichi and
tells him he was lucky. If it weren’t for the rain she
wouldn’t have been found. He tells her she’s very
wrong. He would have told the police to check her clothes anyway because he saw
her holding the milk and sugar in her hand. She had said she came back from the
bathroom when the play had started and the theater was dark. The only way she
would have known not to put in the milk and sugar was if she had opened the lid
before hand. But he does admit it’s only because Ms. Qanju changed the cold coffee to coke.
As Takagi takes her away Megure turns to Shinichi, “You’re still so reliable!”
forgetting that Kogoro is there completely. Megure asks Shinichi if he wants to
go hear the confession, he hasn’t heard one in a long
time. Shinichi says it isn’t necessary...
“I still have some
personal business to attend to,” he says as he glances at
Ran. He does remind Megure to keep his name out of the case. Megure says it’s fine but wonders why Shinichi has been so modest
lately.
As Shinichi is talking to
Heiji, Shinichi breaks into s sweat and starts breathing heavily. Shinichi’s
legs give out from the pain and he leans on a chair. Heiji realizes what is
happening as Shinichi thinks to himself that the cure Ai had was going so well...and
that if he transforms now...Ran will know...but he can’t
move away.
Shinichi faints and
slides to the floor. Ran is immediately over him worried.
We skip to Shinichi
waking up and thinking...
What is that smell? Oh I must be in the health office... Ah it’s
Ran...her face is so pale...I can’t blame her...she’s just seen an adult turn
into a kid.
Then he realizes a lot of people are in the office besides Ran, Heiji and
Kazuha. Heiji immediately tells him, “Kudo you woke up!”
Shinichi looks around then down at his hands...he can’t
believe that he didn’t
transform.
The next file of the case
begins with Ran and Conan ringing the doorbell of the KudoMansion,
repeatedly as Shinichi yells that he’s coming.
Suddenly Shinichi is out there yelling at Ran, “Stop making so much noise! I
can hear you after you ring it once!” toast hanging in mid-air
from his mouth. Ran asks him if he knows what will be happening in school
today. He tells her he guesses they’ll be cleaning up
the school like last year. He goes inside and slams the door behind him yelling, “I’m not ready yet, wait
for me!” Ran peeks inside and as she watches Shinichi thinks “He’s really
here, I’m not dreaming…. He really came back!” She
smiles to herself and then turns to Conan asking him “Isn’t this great?” only to find he isn’t
there.
Inside Shinichi is
getting ready in front of the mirror (mind you there isn’t
really anything he needs to do ^^) whistling and enjoying being back in his own
body. A voice behind him tells him not to let it go to his head.
He turns and looks at
Haibara disguised as Conan. She explains what happened after he collapsed and
the general message is that he has to be careful. He looks at her and asks her
why is she doing all this. She calls him an idiot and
tells him that she has to make sure the antidote works before she decides to do
anything...it really is only a trail one. Shinichi then bends down to her
height and asks her a favor.
“Can you not sound like a
girl when you’re Conan? It sounds awkward.”
“Really? I thought it sounded like you...”
Scene changes to Ran and
Shinichi walking to school talking about the play, that
since Shinichi didn’t know the lines the play was all messed up.
Shinichi in his head
blames Sonoko who told him “The Knight suddenly embraces the princess and
kisses her. If you talk it’ll be messed up!”
Ran then asks him what he
thought.
“You mean the play? Well
we stopped in the middle so I don’t really know.”
“No I mean the princess...actually
you don’t have to know...”
Shinichi smiles, “Oh! You
looked really good in that outfit... Some people look
good in old clothing.”
After getting over the
shock of Shinichi praising her, she tells him smugly, “What’s this? Praise from
you?”
Suddenly the kids come up
yelling out “Conan!”
Shinichi, out of stupid
unchecked habit, says hello and ask how they are doing. The kids treat him like
an adult and say hello very respectfully. Genta then whispers to Conan (Ai) who
he is. “Conan” replies it’s Agasa’s neighbor. And off the kids
go on their way to the primary school. As Shinichi thinks
the whole day feels like a dream, Ran wakes him up by telling him to hurry or
they’ll be late. As
she starts running he yells out “Wait Ran-neechan!” Ran
stops and looks at Shinichi “What?” He is able to laugh it off as a joke while
Ran scolds him to be keep a clear head. (neechan is
older sister or
In school
the guys start teasing Shinichi by saying the married couple are back in school
together. Shinichi tells them it’s not like that. They
start telling him about the new English teacher who has a really “nice body.”
Shinichi, like any teenage boy says “Really?” (which
brings him down 5 points -_-* oh Shinichi...).
Ran, not to let Shinichi
get out of her grasp says “Hey!” and then asks him about what he wanted to tell her.
Shinichi turns to Ran and whispers “About that thing...” we
then get a panel showing Shinichi realizing everyone in the class was trying to
hear what he told Ran. “You guys...” and then Shinichi loses his temper on them and starts yelling at them as Ran
thinks to herself, “Tonight at 8 o’clock, at
Skip to that evening as
Ran and Shinichi are seated at a really expensive
looking restaurant, which makes Ran ask Shinichi if this is really okay, it all
looks so expensive. (Think a restaurant that doesn’t
put prices in the menu...it’s just that ritzy.) Shinichi tells her not to worry, he brought his Dad’s credit card. Ran teases him and
says he’s a disgrace to his family. Shinichi counters
that it was disgraceful of them to leave him alone while they enjoy themselves
abroad.
“You’re so much like
Conan!”
“Huh?”
“His parents out of the
country too...to tell you the truth, I always thought that Conan was really you!”
“Huh
really?”
“Yeah, I thought you met
some trouble and had to hide so you asked Agasa to make you a drug to turn you
into a child. Wasn’t I stupid?”
Shinichi all the while
should be thinking “No Ran, you’re not stupid...you’re very close in fact.” All
he can think of though is that “She’s almost exactly right.”
Then Ran explains that
since Shinichi has come back Conan has been acting like a different person.
Shinichi just laughs...until
Ran leans over the small table for two and asks, “So, what was it that you
wanted to tell me?” not having the smallest clue of what he wants to
tell her.
Shinichi’s heart starts
pounding and he’s blushing as he tries to act like a
man and tell her straight out….
The scene then skips to
the president of a company walking with three men. He asks why the lights are
dimmed and one whispers to the president it’s because
of that performance. The president understands and gets into the elevator
leaving the three behind. The presidents daughter shows up and stays to “talk” with
one of the younger men, Dachang, as the other two
leave for the party that is about to begin.
When alone he asks her
why she’s late. She says she took some extra time
getting ready and then asks him if he told her father about them. He says yes
and that her father approves. He holds her close and wraps his left arm around
her neck and up to her ear, her back is to the
elevator. A square shows something he’s holding is
calling up the elevator, it’s covered in plastic wrap. As he’s
kissing her the elevator with the president inside opens up and the president
stiffens as he sees Dachang holding out a gun ready
to fire.
There’s a bang as the party starts in the
next room and after the elevator closes he lets go of the president’s daughter.
She guesses the party has started based on the amount of noise. He then
presents her a gift, a pink pearl necklace to match the pink earrings she’s wearing.
finishing telling Ran something about Sherlock. (-_-* oi Shinichi!). Ran says “Wow,
Holmes is so great!” Shinichi gloats and tells her “I told you so.”
Then Ran asks him what he really wanted to say. Shinichi starts stuttering (It’s
cute but really Shinichi...another time please -_-*) and his mouth stops working
completely as Ran tells him-
“I know it’s hard for you
to say so, but a man has to brave and you should just say it... If you need the
notebook I used while you were gone you should just say it!”
“What?”
“Wasn’t that what you
wanted to ask? That’s what I thought and copied the pages and brought them with
me.”
“Ah no... That’s exactly it! It was hard for me to ask!”
Ran smiles “I knew it!”
Suddenly it’s Shinichi leaning a bit over her saying, “You should
know that’s not it...”
Ran looks at him
surprised.
“I invited you to dinner
because I have something important to tell you...”
Ran at this point is
blushing a bit as her heart is beating because she doesn’t
know exactly what Shinichi is going to say.
“And that...”
continues Shinichi, “Is that...”
And God, don’t you just know it, a
scream rings out as someone finds a body.
Ran: Who’s
scream was that?
Shinichi: I’m sure it was someone who found a cockroach...
Behind them
someone is telling someone else “The President was found dead in the elevator.”
“What I wanted to say...” continues Shinichi, trying really hard to stay
focused on Ran as people are talking about the body.
“I wanted to say...”
“I won’t make you stay.”
“What?”
“You actually care about
the murder very much...I won’t run away or hide like someone else did...You can
go...Tantei-san.”
Shinichi
stands up, “Sorry Ran...”
“I’ll be back soon,” he
calls over his shoulder.
The police are already at
the scene and they notice the president’s clothes are messy, and the murderer
must have used the party as an opportunity for the murder. Megure stops as he thinks
the case is familiar to one when he was a rookie officer. Takagi says he wouldn’t know anything about it...he was an elementary
student then. Megure remembers a young man telling him then, “I’m sorry, I don’t
think this is a burglary case.” That’s when he
realizes someone just said those words. Megure and Takagi turn to see a young
man giving his analysis of the body and turns.
“Kudo!”
Shinichi quiets him and
asks him just to pretend he’s a police officer. Megure
asks, “Why? Didn’t you always proudly declare you’re identity?”
Takagi asks Shinichi why he’s here.
“Oh I’m having dinner
with Ran.”
Megure laughs, “Wow the
times have changed.”
Shinichi smiles and tells
them, “No there’s actually a reason for this...”
Just then
the President’s daughter gets there and starts crying. She is
accompanied with Dachang and the two other
men, the last to see him alive. The president’s daughter, Taozi,
says the party started at eight, the time on the watch confirmed it. Takagi
asks, “Watch? You’re not wearing a watch.”
She says she read Mr. Dachang’s watch when he was feeling her earring.
Shinichi whispers to
Takagi “Don’t you think it’s strange...” Takagi then asks Taozi if she really saw the face of the watch. Mr. Dachang explains how the hands of the watch glow in the
dark.
Shinichi whispers to
Takagi, “It’s still strange...” Megure joins the two whispering, “I want
to hear too!”
Mr. Dachang
demands to know what is so strange. Shinichi explains that if he used the hand
with the watch to feel her earring then she wouldn’t
be able to see the face of the watch. Dachang says he
felt the other earring. “But then wouldn’t you use the other hand?”
“But I guess I can’t
blame you,” continues Shinichi, “You must have been holding something in your
other hand.”
Skip to Ran alone in the restaurant thinking “What is it...what
could it be...that thing that Shinichi wanted to tell me...what could it be?”
She imagines Shinichi saying “Long time no see, how come you got fatter.” Ran
thinks to herself depressed, “That could be it...My clothes have gotten tighter
at the waist... But why would he ask me to dinner to tell me that?”
Just then
the waitress comes up with Ran’s desert. Ran asks that she doesn’t
serve it until Shinichi gets back, that “he went out when they heard the
scream, but he’s a detective so he should be able to take care of it quickly!”
The waitress
giggles and explains that she and Shinichi are like the famous couple here 20
years ago. 20 years ago they sat at that very table and the
man went out to solve a case and when he came back he loudly said it.
She tells Ran, “You better be prepared!”
“What did he say?”
“He proposed marriage to
her! Good luck!”
Ran at that point is
starts thinking that maybe that is what Shinichi wanted to say...
“Nah, that can’t be it...”
Back to Mr. Dachang yelling at Shinichi, “Are you saying I had a gun in
my hand?”
“Gun? I didn’t
say that! ...Did you have one?”
Dachang turns to Megure, “Inspector who
is this youth!”
“Don’t look at me that way,” starts Shinichi, “I’m the new 20 year old
officer that happened to pass by today on my day off. Right Inspector!” (^^ yay Shinichi!)
Taizo then comes in and explains that
she was with Mr. Dachang the whole time,
that is until they entered the party and she went into the restroom to
look at the necklace he gave but that only took 2 to 3 minutes. Then the
officers come in saying that they found a gun with a silencer in the garbage
that is dropped from a chute. Megure asks if the floor
they are on has a chute, turns out it’s next to the
restroom.
“I see so you can toss it
while you talk,” comments Shinichi. Mr. Dachang
maintains that they were always on that floor and never left, and if he did fire the gun there would be gunpowder residue on his sleeve.
Megure asks to examine it and Dachang consents.
While they go off
Shinichi steps forward to speak with Ms. Taizo.
“May I ask...whether you
kissed Mr. Dachang in front of the elevator?”
“What?!
Did you see us?” (Think of a girl in her twenties blushing and
freaking out a bit.)
“No,”
starts Shinichi, “But my mother said that women like to go to the restroom after eating or
kissing to reapply their lipstick.”
Shinichi then asks her, “How
did he do it?”
“How...well
his hands were like this…” and
so she helps Shinichi recreate the situation.
Takagi nearby sees
and is like “WTF?”
“You had your back to the
elevator?” Shinichi asks with his left arm all the way around her, touching her
ear.
“Yes my back was facing
it...”
She at this moment is
blushing a bit because she and Shinichi are really really close (^^ oblivious Shinichi Thank god he only
has eyes for Ran!)
Takagi is calling out “Wait!”
Shinichi asks her, his
face inches from hers, “Do you two do this often?”
“Yes,” she’s fully blushed, her eyes half-closed, very taken by the young man holding her.
Suddenly Shinichi has
stepped back, his hands on her shoulders, saying, “Thank you that was very
insightful!”
She looks slightly let
down.
Takagi...well his
expression is that either saying Shinichi missed out on
something or confused as to what that was all about.
As they are walking away
Shinichi asks her where she got her earrings... she bought them in a rush
today.
Shinichi smirks sure that
Mr. Dachang killed the president but is missing one
piece of evidence. The conversation of two female workers
give him the information.
Megure asks him “Did you
figure out anything?”
“I know what happened.
Don’t you think it’s hot?”
“You must be kidding the
AC is much too cold!”
“What? But...”
Suddenly Shinichi feels
the stab of pain that comes as warning...telling him time is running out.
“Oh no...I’m really in
trouble...at this important moment...I can’t let anything happen to me!!!”
All the while he is thinking of Ran.
Megure turns to Shinichi
who is being helped by Takagi, “Are you okay?”
“Darn* it!”
thinks Shinichi.
Takagi:
Kudo?
“At this important moment...I
can’t let anything happen to me...”
In that instant an
officer comes up to Megure telling him no gunpowder
residue was found on Mr. Dachang. Takagi starts
thinking it might be an outsider who committed the murder. Megure orders for
officers to start looking around the area of the hotel but Shinichi interrupts
him.
Shinichi: That is not
necessary. We already have the murderer...step on to the stage and the truth will be revealed.
Once everyone is gathered in front of the elevator, a slightly winded
Shinichi begins the deduction, the lights dimmed just as they were when the
murder occurred. Until one part comes under question
which Shinichi explains perfectly.
“The
pink pearl.”
“Huh?”
“Didn’t you said you gave her a necklace that matched her earrings? How
did you know that her earrings were pink?”
“You can tell just by
looking at...” Dachang trails off
realizing that in the dark the pink isn’t pink.
Shinichi continues, “She
bought the pearls today in a hurry, you hadn’t seen them before and in this
darkness they would look like black beads. It would have been impossible to
tell they were pink, unless while kissing her noticed when the elevator door
opened, letting in light.” (Picture of a good-looking Shinichi
standing in front of elevator as doors stand open ^^).
Mr. Dachang
confesses and that 20 years ago his father committed a
similar murder...right there.
“But his plan was
discovered by a youth equally smart to the youth today.”
Megure then remembers,
that 20 years ago it was Yusaku who solved that case (we get a picture of a 20 year old Yusaku! ^^ equally as good
looking as Shin-chan ^^).
Takagi: Oh that mystery
story writer!
Megure: In other words Dachang got inspiration for this scheme from his father
only to be discovered by the son who uncovered his
father’s scheme.
He turns to Shinichi
saying, “How ironic?” but Shinichi is not there.
(actually
its coincidental ^^)
In the men’s restroom
Shinichi is standing over the sink, steam rising from his skin begging his body
to hold a little longer...
She...She’s
waiting for me...I can’t change into Conan now...not yet!
Shinichi is startled to
hear a stall open behind him. He looks up into the mirror to see Ai, still
dressed as Conan looking at her watch...
Shinichi slumps to the
floor in pain asking why.
24 hours is the most it
worked...
She takes off the glasses
from her face and thinks, “I’ll lend this to you, Edogawa-kun.”
where Ran is waiting, the waitress talking to her
(wanting a front row seat.)
“Did you hear the case
was solved? You’re about to see you’re other half!”
“He’s not my other...”
She trails off as she
sees Conan standing there, out of breath but properly dressed.
“Conan?” (The
waitress at this point is smart enough to walk off.)
“This is the credit card...
Shinichi told me to give it to you.”
Ran looks at Conan
surprised.
“Ojisan
told me to check up on you, but I saw Shinichi.”
“My dad is here?”
“Yeah he’s in the parking
lot.”
Flash of Kogoro waiting
in yet another rental car.
“What the heck is the kid
doing? It’s been an hour!”
He starts to get out of
the car but goes back in deciding it would be very uncool.
During Kogoro’s tantrum Ai, got into Agasa’s
VW and went home.
Ran looks at Conan, still
hopeful and smiling a bit, “Where’s Shinichi?”
“Uh...he’s...Someone
called him on his cell phone and said there was a problem with the case from
before and he ran off. He’s so stupid.”
Ran’s eyes turn sad as she has to agree, “Yeah...”
“I’ve been stood up
again.”
“Ran-neechan...Shinichi-niichan said-”
“Don’t! I don’t want to
hear it!... I don’t want to hear any excuses!”
Conan stops for a second
watching the tears at Ran’s eyes that are about to fall, so sad he’s hurt her so badly. That she’s
just sitting there with her eyes closed and her hands over her ears.
Conan looks down, “He
said he’ll be back one day. Even if he dies. He’s going to come back.
“He wanted me to tell you
to wait for him no matter what.”
Ran’s hands fall away as
she looks at the intensity that Conan is saying the words with, almost
bewildered by the child’s necessity to not to let Ran give up on Shinichi.
“So...So...”
Ran’s face breaks into a
smile, “I’m so stupid. You don’t have to look at me like that!” Then
her face turns into a bit of a pout, “The one who is stupid is the one who goes
all over the world for a case. That deducing fool!”
Conan isn’t
exactly pleased with her choice of words to describe him but stops thinking
when Ran asks him if he wants desert. He says okay and the waitress
brings over menus so they can have desert...
“*Darn it,” says
Ran as she starts her 5th cup of ice cream, “Why do I have to wait for him? I’m
not his mother.”
Conan is kind of amazed just how Ran can keep attacking the ice cream
but stops thinking as Ran interrupts his thoughts again.
“But what is it? What is
the important thing Shinichi wanted to tell me? Don’t
you want to know Conan?”
“No
way.”
“Why did he bring me to
such an expensive place? He probably didn't have anything important to say
anyway...”
In his head
Shinichi thinks sadly that he can’t tell her now but he purposely brought her
to the place where his parents decided their future...
