Everything About Detective Conan:
Summary Two
Okay, we just finished with Ran seemingly convinced that Conan is not Shinichi and Shinichi’s father showing him up.
***
The next case is I call “Detective Ran” though technically there are two but the other one doesn’t come till much later and actually has her doing the deduction. Oops already rambling. Okat so anyway in this case Ran, Conan and Sonoko go skiing. There they run into their old elementary school teacher, Ms. Yonahara who had pretty long hair now. They join her group of school teachers and head up to the cabin that the teachers were going to stay at. On the way they ask someone for directions and he advises that they shouldn’t go because of the blizzard coming. Then they question who set up the trip when they all realize they were all invited the same way. Deciding it must have been the friend who had not arrived yet they are surprised to find a reporter at their front door. The same reporter who covered a case the teachers were involved in a 3 years ago.
While Sonoko is changing the sheets in one room she goes into another after hearing the sound of something falling. Sonoko goes into the room and sees Ms. Yonahara on the floor seemingly dead. She screams and notices the Japanese letter ‘Mi’ on Yonahara-san’s hand. Sonoko is strangled from behind at that moment, a rag over her mouth to quiet her. Sonoko falls to the ground after being strangled with a rope-like object. Ran kicks down the door. The attacker escaped by then. Ms. Yonahara wakes up and the rest come into the room on hearing the commotion. On Sonoko’s hand, who is just asleep, they find the letter ‘na.’ The reporter brings up the phrase Mi-na-go-ro-chi (kill everyone). Conan goes out the open window in the room and follows the footprints that lead him to the front door.
The reporter continually brings up the case from three years ago, Conan curious because none of the teachers will speak of it goes to the restroom and calls Agasa to find out what happened. While waiting the door bell rings – it’s the teacher who had not shown up yet, who falls over dead into the house. On his hand is the letter ‘ko’ which scares the teachers. Ran comes to find out what happened, and as Sonoko is knocked out and her father isn’t there wished Shinichi was there. Yonahara-san of course remembers him, in fourth grade he found the money that was for the class’s food. The teacher remembers him was conceited and just playing detective, but Ran says that now he is a famous detective.
The reporter comes in and starts saying what he knows of Kudo Shinichi - the famous detective who has solved several difficult cases though he is only 16. He once thought of writing a piece on him but he disappeared. Then he brings up the rumor.
That Kudo Shinichi got involved in a case he was not supposed to and was killed.
Ran immediately begins to refute it but Conan stops her. (It would be best if the press didn’t announce that Kudo Shinichi’s girlfriend was still getting calls from the assumed dead boyfriend.)
Conan continues investigating and gets the call back from Agasa. A girl from the Ballet club at Hido elementary hung herself in the club room. It might have been stress from the exams. Her teacher was questioned heavily but her name was not released. Only the name of the girl Minako. Ran comes by and sees Conan with the phone, sure Shinichi must be on the other end Agasa tells her Shinichi just left to the restroom. Then a scream rings out and it is just as the reporter predicted, the teacher who ran to his room to stay alone was killed.
Conan can’t find the murder weapon and determines the murderer must be one of the teachers and they have it on them. They search everyone and because they can’t find it the reporter thinks Conan might have lied, must have left the stairs at one point. They realize they left Sonoko alone down stairs and get there just as she awakes. While Ran watched over Sonoko, Conan leaves to further investigate. He finds the last piece of evidence and thinks as to how he should show the deduction, what with the reporter there and all. Remembering his phone device can pick up calls from the bow-tie when it falls out of his pocket after Ran picks him up he calls her after she puts him down and picks it up. She answers as Conan has gone around the corner. Conan starts talking to her as Shinichi, telling her Conan has told him everything that has happened and asks her to do the deduction for him. She’s nervous and he tells her they can wait till the police get there but she decides to do it. She puts in the earpiece and walks down the stairs ready. Behind her Conan follows, apologetic.
Ran joins the group and tells them she’s figured it out. The reporter asks her if she knows the consequences if she’s wrong, she could be expelled from school, her reputation ruined. Shinichi reassures her that he’s there for her all she has to do is say what he tells her and the truth will be revealed. The reporter asks her if she’s made up her mind and she replies with the statement, “Go ahead, report it to the news that the daughter of the famous detective Mouri Kogoro has successfully solved the murder case at the resort house in the snowy mountains!” And after that Ran begins to explain the case going along and figuring out also what has happened as Shinichi leads her through it. She demonstrates the methods and speaks confidently. (Think Shinichi here, obviously all detectives get a bit confident while explaining.) Then she begins to explain about the weapon, and that the criminal is still carrying it. Ran continues explaining until she realizes just who it is, but nonetheless knows it’s true and announces it.
After the case the reporter asks her if he can print it, she replies whatever as she steps out crying. She notices Conan standing there quiet, clearly seeing how much like Shinichi he is. Wishing Shinichi was there for her she falls to her knees and holds Conan, all the while thinking Shinichi as she cries. The file ends with Shinichi thinking “Although I could easily end the case, the one thing I could not end were the brimming tears of this tender detective.”
Stuck as Conan he couldn’t be there for her when she needed Shinichi.
After that sad note we get a kid case involving the Japanese band “Two-Mix.” (Two-Mix’s singer, formerly Takayama, Minami recently married Gosho and is the voice for Conan in Japan). Anyway, the joke in this case was that Conan and this famous singer have the same voice. She and her partner are kidnapped and it’s up to Conan and the Shonen Tantei to save her. By the time they save her they are 30 minutes late for the concert. Suddenly, after Genta presses a button, the song White Reflection begins playing and the crowd starts cheering sure the concert is going to begin. Panicked the crew backstage doesn’t know what to do. Conan asks them for the lyrics and goes out on stage to sing. I never happened to mention that Shinichi can’t sing did I. He’s not tone-deaf because he can recognize note, he just can’t sing to save his life. Anyway it’s safe to say that Conan doesn’t get an applause. Minami comes out just in time and starts singing and takes Conan and the kids out on stage with her. Sadly I don’t have that last page to say what Conan thought of Two-Mix’s music. In the beginning it’s revealed Shinichi really doesn’t like music (cause he can’t sing). ^^ (Wonder if he can play a violin like Sherlock? Or if he tried but gave up?)
After that is “The Loan Company President's Murder Case,” “A Famous House's Strange Continuous Murder,” and “The Seven Mysteries of Teitan Elementary” I don’t know too much about those as I haven’t read those yet. Usually I would say my usual it hasn’t been scanned line but one of those involves Heiji so happy hunting for it- I don’t know what happens in it.
***
And now what you’ve probably been waiting for after hearing me talk on an on about it for over a year now, one of my favorite files “Conan vs. KID.”
It begins with Ran and Sonoko shopping on day in Shibuya (the shopping district in Tokyo) and Sonoko explaining about the “Elusive 1412” and that Sonoko’s father wants Mouri Kogoro to protect the pearl “The Black Star” and capture the thief. Mainly Sonoko wants Kogoro there so they get a chance to see 1412’s face. “Maybe he’s a cutie…” (He is! ^^) They cross the street and as Sonoko is babbling Ran turns as a couple pass her by. Sure that the boy walking next to the girl was Shinichi. The light turns red as Ran tries crossing the street. Sonoko holds her back as Ran is calling out for Shinichi, that he was there.
At home she tells Kogoro and Conan, that Shinichi passed her in the street and didn’t say hi. Conan all the while is thinking, I wasn’t in Shibuya and my body is the same. Ran says how he was with an other girl and Conan (stupidly) “you confused him with another guy!” Ran glances over at Conan, her expression saying you sure are sure. Kogoro then asks her about the thief and where the number came from. 1412 was the number for him in the CIA, Interpol and FBI but it was leaked. Conan scoffs and starts heading off to bed until he hears about the cryptic message that the Suzuki’s received. Conan looks at it and smirks.
Fool’s Day.
When the moon divides two persons under the black star, I will be pushed by the wave, and I will come see you.
It’s the 31st of March when Kogoro and the rest go to the Beika museum where the pearl is on display. The Inspectors and Kogoro argue about what the message might mean but Conan can’t tell them that they are all wrong because he couldn’t figure it out. When one of the inspector’s brings up the time and Conan Ran notices Conan looking around. He explains to her he wants to try to know the direction with his watch (small needle to sun and the space between 12 and the small needle is south). 1 o’clock is south, southeast is two thirty and Conan knows where to meet the thief.
Conan asks Ran if they can go home, and he leaves ahead of them. Sonoko notes that it’s odd, usually he wants to be on the scene. Ran replies that thieves don’t interest him.
(Exactly who is she talking about here? I’d like to hear what ya think ^^)
That night at March 31st 11:04 PM, Conan calls Agasa after making sure both Ran and Kogoro were asleep, asking him to look up what is in his father’s files about the thief with retro looks. Conan explains the note in his head and ends up at the roof of the Haido Hotel.
In a police car nearby they note Conan going by. The Inspector in the car gives a short laugh, ‘Supposing it’s him, I don’t see how a child can turn into an adult’. Conan gets to the roof and talks to Agasa about what in his father’s files.
“His first burglary was 18 years ago in Paris, he disappeared 10 years later. Some even said he was dead. 8 years later, this year, he started up again. Nothing on his personality except he’s been described as the Arsene Lupin of the 90’s, the Magician of the Moonlight but the most common was made up by a smart young writer (probably Yusaku) by transforming the numbers 1412 into K-I-D: KID.”
(I still maintain Knightus that nothing in this case says it’s the first time Shinichi has run into KID. Chances are he knew him only by the name of KID and not 1412.)
And as Agasa says Kaitou Kid (Kaitou means Phantom Thief and in Japanese it’s the adjective and then the noun (I think ^^)) he appears, catching Conan off guard.
“Without breaking the silence, he silently appeared before me, as if he could see right through me, with a fearless smile on his face… A mantle and a silk hat, the monocle and poor light make his face hard to see… he looks young 30, 20. No younger.” (How wrong he is on that last statement ^^)
Kaitou Kid starts asking Conan what he’s doing there. His reply is a firework in a pop can. The police catch on, a helicopter investigates. Conan while talking to Kid puts on his cute voice “Fireworks – Oooh a helicopter, it looks like it’s noticed us!” Kaitou Kid is not stupid and says “You’re not a normal brat.” Conan tells him his name “Edogawa Conan – Detective.”
“Wow.”
“Anyway is it okay Mr. Kid the Phantom Thief? If you don’t hurry and run away the helicopter will get here!”
We get a square of Kid thinking it over, hand at chin. Conan in that moment is planning to hit him with the stun gun on his watch. Kaitou Kid whips out a walkie-talkie, clears his throat, and just about gives Conan a heart attack (^^) as he changes his voice to lead the police there. In response to Conan’s mad face Kid says “Satisfied, Detective-kun?”
Inspector Nakamori and the rest get there and they talk. Nakamori tells him to give up on the pearl, Kid says tonight was only to see how fast they react. “April Fool!” he announces as he engages his hang glider (it comes out of his cape). Nakamori yells for the officers to stop him but Kid throws out a flash bomb. While Kid is escaping he tells Conan.
“Hey boy, did you know? Phantom thieves are artists who creatively steal their targets but detectives don’t amount to anything more than critics who look at remains and try to find faults.”
Kid disappears and they can’t find him using the radar. Then they notice a note on the ground.
April 19th
I will board the Queen Selizabeth set to depart from Yokohama harbor and take the real black star.
Kid the Phantom Thief (A Rose is attached).
On April 19th all are at the party, and Mr. Suzuki announces that they should all have a good time. His wife, Suzuki Tomoko, comes on stage with a challenge to Kid. Everyone got a box on boarding, they are ordered to open it. Inside is a fake pearl and only one person has the real one, and he has to find that person. Sonoko looks around for her sister but doesn’t see her, she calls her house and finds out that a police inspector said it leaves two hours late and that her father is still at home. (We all should know who is the Police Inspector ^^). Conan calls Kid a **bleep** in his head and runs to the bathroom were Kid has left behind the disguise for Mr. Suzuki. Conan runs back to the ballroom to tell the rest. Kogoro meets Nakamori, who is always on Kid cases (I’ll explain about Magic Kaito later ^^). Mrs. Suzuki gives a hint that the pearl is with the most appropriate person.
At that point some people from past cases come up and talk with Kogoro. Hatamoto Shouji (from the Cruise ship case), and Mifune Takuya (from Reika’s Birthday Murders). Mifune isn’t wearing his pearl but puts it on when Kogoro says he could be suspected. He picks it out of the box with a handkerchief. Suzuki Ayako’s fiancé asks Sonoko where Ayako is (we met him in Triple Threat). Kogoro notices Ran isn’t around, Sonoko replies that she probably got lost somewhere. At that moment Ran comes back from up behind them. Sonoko asks her how it was outside, Ran tells her that the hallways were full of police which is kind of obvious… there must have been more than she expected.
At that point Inspector Chaki tells everyone to pair up and share secret words so that they know that their partner is who they think it is.
Of course Ran and Conan pair up. Conan tells her Holmes and Ran says she’ll reply with Lupin. At that point the power comes out. And Kid appears saying secret words won’t work and that he already had the Black Star. That’s when Mrs. Suzuki pulls out a gun and shoots a Kid landing several shots. He falls and lands on a table, all the while Sonoko is crying. The guests look at the bloody thief in dismay and Nakamori is along the lines of “What have you done” minus several expletives. She reveals he’s still alive and is actually the entertainment for tonight – the magician Sanada Kazumi. (I think he’s one of the student magicians from the Shinichi discovered case.) Conan watches him intently but turns as he senses he is being watched. Sanada starts performing a magic trick and passes the cards around to shuffle. Ayako’s fiancé drops them and Ran and Sonoko help him pick up the cards. Sanada says that the cards falling won’t effect his luck. (The word he uses in Japanese is Tsuki which also means moon.) Conan looks through the list of the guests as Sonoko and Ran hand Sanada back the cards, and because they did he lets them pick. Conan figures out where the pearl is and Ran pulls out a card from the deck. Sanada thinks it will be the Ace of Hearts.
It turns out to be a message from Kid. “Like Caesar who was fascinated with Cleopatra, I am already beside you… Kid the Phantom Thief.”
The crowd starts freaking out and the police are trying to calm the crowd. Conan looks around thinking “If you’re going to do anything, now the time when everyone’s feeling jumpy.”
Sonoko notices that Ran’s pearl is gone. She notices it on the floor a few feet away and asks someone to pick up the pearl. A random guy in the crowd bends down but just as he is about to touch it the pearl explodes. Pearls start falling and people throw them off their chests and there is suddenly a lot of smoke in the air. Ms. Suzuki falls and Ran helps her up. Sonoko points out that her mother’s pearl is gone. At that point she screams out that Kid has taken the black star. Conan grabs Ran’s hand and asks her to follow him because he’s figured out who Kid the Phantom Thief is.
The next part spoils the case and I really don’t want to go on but I know someone’s gonna want to know so after this here I go. If you don’t want to read it just scroll down to the next astrik set to continue.
***
He leads her down to the boiler room and she asks him if Kaitou Kid is really there. Conan ignores her question and asks her about gem meanings and explains that pearl stands for woman and moon and the only one with either in her name is Ms. Suzuki Tomoko. Ran replies with a wow and asks how does that help him figure out who Kid is. He explains some stuff of the cards and Ran asks him if it was Sanada. He says no, it was someone who could draw a card and attach the message to it.
“Right Ran-neechan… no. Mr. Kaitou Kid.”
On the deck they are all keeping an eye out and searching the ship. In the boiler room Conan starts explaining. “Right you switched with Ran when she went out to look for me… I’m impressed I didn’t notice at all.” He explains what Kid did and when he stole it, and accuses Kid of having knowledge before hand that large amounts of fake pearls were being made for this. Ran says she didn’t know which one was the real one and that she didn’t hear the hint. Conan counters that and continues explaining that he probably could recognize it merely by the dullness of the pearl Suzuki-san was wearing. “It’s pitiful, I was totally caught up in your appearance and forgot all about it.” Ran points out that the Black Star at the museum was all shiny. Conan says that that’s why he didn’t take it. He knew it was a fake and baited her to bring out the real one by putting it in the note. Ran gets to the phone there and says “If you doubt me that much, I’ll call the police here…” and is startled by a soccer ball that pretty much smashes the phone. Conan explains the trick he used on the roof, by disguising as a police officer he got away and could place the note...
“Besides calling someone here is totally unrefined, considering I went to the trouble of respecting you as an artist to the crime and called you to a one on one battle, even though we’re in the middle of a panic… right, most of the great artists became known after they died… I’ll make you into a mastermind Kaitou Kid (the ball has rolled back to him and his foot is on it) By sending you to a graveyard called prison.”
Kid holds up his hands. “Heh you got me,” he’s holding the pearl in his (her? He’s still in Ran’s appearance) hands and throws it to Conan in a handkerchief.
“Tell the missus I’m sorry for ruining her party.”
“A bit late.”
“A that’s right, the girl I borrowed these clothes from, she’s sleeping in a life boat (Kid is looking down the front of the dress)… If you don’t hurry up she’ll catch a cold.”
The next panel shows Kid holding up what is clearly the top of Ran's bra saying “I’m a perfectionist!”
(Did he know Conan was Shinichi? Or just a very smart boy? Read on to see a theory.)
Conan blushes realizing Ran must not have any clothes. Kid takes that moment of hesitation to run away with a flash bomb leaving behind the clothes. Conan curses and picks up the clothes running for the lifeboats. Some people find a girl sleeping in a lifeboat and as Conan is getting there he’s yelling for them to stop and wait only to find that Ran is fully clothed with a note pinned to her desk. The hang glider was found after that and Kid disappeared from the ship.
*** In the end Conan corners Kid, saves the jewel and stops Kid from using his hang glider to get away. Nonetheless the Phantom Thief disappeared.
The next day Sonoko, Ran, and Conan are walking home. As Sonoko is excitedly reading the newspaper and asking Conan about Kid, Ran has a bit of a sad look on her face. Sonoko askes her if she saw Kid’s face, but Ran says she didn’t. Conan says he did and that is was about 20. Ahead of them they see a couple walking home. The boy sneezing. The panel shows the boy thinking because of the brat I had to swim away. Sonoko asks Ran if he looks a bit like Shinichi and maybe he’s they one they say in Shibuya. Conan is a bit offended to be compared to him. (They really do look alike the only difference is the hair Kid’s is spikier and wild.) Ran smiles and says she’s glad and that she gets it.
For people who read the spoiler
***
I think if Kaitou Kid does know who Conan really is he might have used Shinichi’s voice before knocking Ran out. That’s why she was a bit sad, until she realized that it is possible for there to be people who look and sound like Shinichi. Mind you with the way Shinichi’s been gone I won’t have been surprised if she had started thinking Shinichi was gone because he was Kid ^^)
***
The next case after that one is the “Potter Murder Case,” don’t know too much about it so I’ll go on to the next one.
“Parent Trap” is the next file and in it Kogoro, Ran, and Conan run into Eri at the beach. (It’s not so much of a coincidence cause Ran set it up ^^). It’s pretty funny and the main thing that goes on, besides the case is that Eri lost her wedding ring and was looking for it. Eri warns Conan not to be like Kogoro when he grows up ^^ and what’s funny is Conan solves the case by using the bow-tie but Eri doesn’t notice. Kogoro does surprise Conan though by already knowing about the missing wedding ring and had been out looking for it earlier, when Eri thought he was just picking up girls.
Then is “Hospitalized Burglar” and some other file that I know nothing about. Nothing important (like I said if it were important I would have it and it would be scanned).
After that is the “First Love” file. It begins with Conan, Ran and Sonoko going to Shinichi’s house to clean it. Sonoko’s complaining and saying that they shouldn’t be stuck in doors on a beautiful day but out looking for their first loves. Conan grins a bit, up until the point when Ran says to Sonoko “Talking about first loves what kind of girl should be Shinichi’s first love?” Thinking that by now, because he’s a guy, he should have had about 2 or 3 by now. Conan immediately blushes. And Sonoko starts thinking… and then looks at Ran saying “You’ve known him since you were a little girl right? … And you have a really good heart … I bet Shinichi’s first love was you!” Ran immediately says that they’re just friends while Conan is having a blushing heart attack which doubles when Sonoko asks Ran if Shinichi is her first love. Ran blushes while denying it; Sonoko teases her over it and Conan starts wondering if it is true.
The doorbell rings and Sonoko teases her that Shinichi’s come back. But it’s not Shinichi at the door. It’s a girl, named Asami, from TotoUniversity who used to be the Student Body President when they were in 7th grade at TeitanMiddle School. (She was in 9th grade.) She starts helping them clean and talking with them, turns out she invited Shinichi to a logic birthday party but there was no response so she came in person to invite Shinichi. She was sure he would come but he might have already forgotten about the confession 4 years ago. Ran asks her “Confession?” and Asami replies with “well it’s common that – the first love – is just a popular love. It comes fast, but goes fast as well.” Ran and Sonoko immediately assume that she is Shinichi’s first love. Conan is having a heart attack remembering what he told Asami back then in 7th grade. Sonoko brings up a rumor from back then and Asami tells them that that part wasn’t true, just the confession and was about to explain what happened when Conan interrupts her and successfully gets them to go to the party and even bring Kogoro along (hey he is a detective). And so the party is going on and one of the big things about the party is the Lemon Pie.
Supposedly, Asami’s lemon pie is really great but Asami has Ran bake it instead. It looks kind of malformed but everyone gets a slice anyway and tries it. Conan loves it. After that the party continues and they go to the karaoke box but leave Asami behind who is sleeping. At the Karaoke box Ran looks a little down and so Sonoko talks with her knowing fully well why Ran feels bad.
“This woman is beautiful, talented, academically and athletically excellent. She has high self-esteem, everyone falls in love with her. Besides whatever she does she’s always number one. Easy speaking it’s about Asami right?”
“How’d you know that?”
“It’s written on your face.”
“I’m no match to her.” (No Ran you’re better!!! Really!!!)
“There is no doubt that Shinichi admired her, moreover she used to be manager of the school’s soccer club… Don’t think about it too much, she already left Shinichi. It’s past. You and Shinichi are different, you’ve been friends forever.”
“Sonoko do you know that Shinichi really likes lemon pie?”
Looks like Asami told her that while teaching Ran how to make it. Sonoko does her best to cheer up Ran. Conan looks at them like Sonoko is really weird. That’s when they notice the apartment where the party was being held at is on fire. When they get there Ran puts on a motorcycle helmet and goes in with Conan to save Asami. Ran wakes up at the hospital, both are safe, and it was Conan who told Ran to wear the helmet. Sonoko says that he’s always doing something incredible. Ran smiles and it’s not a sad one but kind of reflective. Anyway after that we skip to Conan wandering around and figuring out what happened. It’s not long after that he stuns Kogoro and uses the bowtie to explain the case. Turns out she turned down one of the guys who was at the party when he asked her to be his girlfriend. He tells her something really mean as he’s pulled away but she says quietly that she’s been rejected before. At that moment Conan is looking around kind of blushing.
Yes, Shinichi rejected her when he was in 7th grade. Turns out she started the rumor but it didn’t seem as if Shinichi cared at all. Sonoko asks her what attracted her to Shinichi. He was a great soccer player and that was nice but it wasn’t until she baked a lemon pie and shared it with the team. Everyone said it was great, that is everyone but Shinichi. Turns out everyone else had said it was good to be nice. So she baked a lemon pie everyday until Shinichi said it was good. She doesn’t even remember how she became manager of the team. (^^) Turns out she was teaching Ran to bake it wrong but it still came out great. Asami wanted to embarrass Ran a bit. Asami brings up what Shinichi told her after he rejected her, Conan tries to interrupt but Sonoko clamps her hand over Conan’s mouth and says she wants to hear.
“He softly told me that… “I already have a girl I like. We’ve known each other since we were little kids. She is strong, and stubborn but gentle and sensitive. She has everything in her.””
Sonoko immediately says that it’s Ran. Ran’s still blushing but then turns to Sonoko and asks “Is there such a girl?” Conan is very thankful to how Ran is clueless in love.
***
The next case is “Haibara’s First Appearance.” It starts with a new girl joining Conan’s class. She is very cute with light hair. When she’s asks to take a seat she takes the empty on next to Conan. Conan’s kinda surprised by how cold and business-like she is. Ayumi says she’s just shy. Her name is Haibara Ai. She tells them where she lives and it’s near the Kudo house, but Conan doesn’t know exactly where. Anyway a case comes up for the kids and it involves counterfeiters, who dress in black from head to toe, a lady is the leader. Conan tries to shake off the kids, but Haibara tells them exactly what he would do. While getting close to taking down the counterfeiters Conan remembers the girl from the black org he couldn’t save, unable to remember her name… The next page shows Gin driving in his car talking to some other agent.
“I see so nothing new on him?”
“No boss, we looked everywhere. I can’t believe he could disappear like that.”
“We didn’t find the body, that would mean he is still alive. Anyway find him quickly… if he knows something and tells someone… So I want him dead or alive.”
Then Conan gets to the floor where they are at and has to save the kids and Haibara. Conan kicks a paint can and the gun is thrown out of the lady in black. It falls and Haibara picks it up and fires it just missing the ladies face. The police arrives and it turns out the counterfeiters weren’t part of the organization. Megure finds out that Ai shot the gun and starts yelling at her. Ai immediately starts crying and Conan walks her home. As he’s leaving her to walk the rest of the way by herself she says to him.
“APTX 4869… That’s the name of the drug you swallowed… Because that is the name of the drug I invented for the organization based on their order.”
Conan’s in shock and asks her why she’s a child. Turns out she swallowed it too. Her name was “Sherry,” and then she addresses him by his real name.
After giving Conan a good scare turns out she’s living with Agasa. (He didn’t know Agasa’s address because he never send him mail, if he gives him anything it’s in person. Agasa found Sherry outside of Shinichi’s house. Turns out the organization sent teams to check Shinichi’s house twice, Sherry accompanied them, but there was nothing that was moved. The only thing she did notice that Shinichi’s childrens clothes was gone. In some of the early tests of the drug some lab rats turned small which made her think that was what happened to Shinichi. Nonetheless she marked his data with deceased. He was the only one she couldn’t confirm as dead. When she found out that the drug was being used on a larger scale she stopped working, and refused to work again because they killed her sister. They wouldn’t give her a reason and was sentenced to be executed. When waiting in the chamber she decided to take one of the APTX (Apotoxin) pills she had on her to commit suicide. She did not die but shrank and could escape. Her only place to go, the only person she could hope would help her was Shinichi.
He is mad at that point. That he wouldn’t help or understand a person who created a drug that kills people. He tells her because of her darned drug only God knows how many have died. She replies it was not her intention to create a drug like that in the first place. Turns out the place that she was working at was burned a couple of days ago. Conan consents to helping her and tells her not to go out by herself, there was always the chance that a member could recognize her child face or a victim could shrink and the organization would find out and then they would all be done for. Sherry has no other family, her parents died soon after she was born and though she was sent to study in American and other countries, her sister lived in Japan having a normal life but under observation. Her sister deliberately worked for the organization in an effort to get her out.
Ai then remembers that some data on the drug might be with a professor friend of her sisters. The name of the professor is Masami Hirota, her sister’s name was Miyano Akemi. They go to the house to find the professor dead. The floppies are gone. A message from Vodka is on the machine however it doesn’t look as if they are behind the murder.
Ai watches Conan working and remembers the last time she saw her sister.
“Conan Edogawa?”
“Yes that four-eyes little boy I told you about, at that time you told me you had something to look after in someone’s house in Beika, didn’t you?”
“Yeah Kudo’s house.”
“Well Conan lives at the detective agency near that house. He really amazes me. He is still a kid, but his composure is like an adult.”
“Sis are you really okay?”
“Don’t worry all is fine. The one who you should be worried about is you Shiho! Stop making that drug and go and get yourself a boyfriend! I’m perfectly okay!”
That’s where I’m gonna have to stop cause I haven’t seen the last file translated.
Updated note: The case is solved, however once they recover the disk it is destroyed by the Night Baron Virus...
The next case is “The Missing Mystery Writer” but I haven’t seen it. But it’s okay cause the one after that is “Kazuha’s First Appearance.”
I’ll try to make this one shorter as I still have a lot to go. Mainly it’s Kogoro, Ran and Conan going to Osaka to visit Heiji seeing that they know him so well now. Kogoro wants to eat (Osaka is known for it’s food ^^ okonomiyaki yum yum!) Heiji invited Conan and them to Osaka because recently Heiji had a strange dream. Heiji was stopping a murderer and he got stabbed and somehow Conan died.
Anyway they head to eat at a restaurant and Ran feels like someone is glaring at her but she doesn’t see anyone. The guy behind the counter asks Heiji where he got Ran and if she’s his new one. Heiji laughs and says no but asks if it looks like it. Conan glares at him. Ran says she’s just a friend from Tokyo. They finish eating there and go to another restaurant and while Heiji is ordering a girl comes and sits next to Conan and Ran. (Conan is sandwiched between them.)
“So you’re Kudo,” she says. Ran and Conan are like “what?” The girl says Heiji won’t stop talking about you (Kudo). Conan thinks he’s busted but it turns out she mistook Ran for Kudo. Heiji reassures her that Kudo is a guy and Ran is his girlfriend. Kazuha is still just a little wary of Ran. Well we get a lot of cute things in that story and I feel that I’ve spoiled enough in others to let Heiji and Kazuha be a surprise. But anyway Conan does come close to being stabbed but doesn’t because Heiji lets him borrow the omamori (Kazuha gave Heiji a good luck charm). Unfortunately the omamori keeps Heiji safe and because he doesn’t have it on him he gets shot. In the ambulance he tells Kazuha just to let him rest. She thinks he’s dead and screams his name. He sits up and tells her to shut up he just wants to sleep. It ends with Heiji and Kazuha going back and forth calling each other stupid. (Aho is the word in the fandom because that’s how its said in the Kansai dialect.)
The next case is the “Soccer Stadium Hostages” and this is the earliest case I have of Sato and Takagi appearing in the manga and the first of cases that pop up in the manga that involve some threat to a stadium audience. It’s a kid case which now means it includes Haibara. What’s funny is that Conan is standing with the kids to get a better look but Haibara is sitting in a seat with sunglasses, reading a magazine, wearing a jacket and knee-high boots. (Honestly Ai you’re only going to attract attention like that -_-* though it is a cool outfit ^^). Anyway Conan looks at her like who is she fooling, takes off her glasses, puts his hat on her and drags her to where the rest of them are. While watching him watch soccer Ai thinks of something “Kudo, you would probably never dream that you are already part of the Black Organization’s Project.”
Here we are told two things: the name of the organization though that was already the name going around by then, and then that said organization has some project.
(Even those up to date on the manga do not know what the Black Org’s intentions are at this point though theories are being thrown around).
Anyway Conan and Ai talk and he asks her how old she really is. She jokes and says she’s 84 but is cut off before she says her real age (about 18). Anyway the case pops up and there is a guy demanding 50 million yen and if they try evacuating people he’ll start killing people. As Conan is talking and listening to what is going on with the police he finds out the kids left to split up and try to find the guy. Conan screams his head off at them saying he has a gun and to stop. They get him to let them look as long as they tell him first if they see anyone. Stuff happens and they accidentally mistake Takagi as the criminal at one point and it gets to be pretty funny. In the end Conan corners the guy (and for some reason Gosho had to draw Conan with a demonic grin as he was about to kick the soccer ball ^^) but they missed the game. Ai tells him her age and adds a teasing “Just perfect for you.”
The next case is called “The Magic Lovers Club” and this is just such a great case I won’t say too much on it except a few things. Sonoko recently started chatting online with a group that likes magic that call themselves the magic lovers club. Sonoko and Ran are going to the first group meeting that’s in person. Sonoko is looking forward to meeting the guy Katsuki Daito who’s 21 and has to be cute because of the way he talks on-line. Conan has a cold and so he can’t stay. Turns out Katsuki is fat but as Ran comments “very nice.” Sonoko really doesn’t care about that. (Stupid girl don’t trust your eyes ^^). While Conan and Kogoro are driving back home they hear on the radio that one of the people that was supposed to go to the meaning was found dead in his apartment. Conan orders Kogoro to turn around the car. In the mean time at the party everyone shares their favorite Japanese magician. One mentions Kuroba Toichi and Katsuki agrees. The rest mention their favorites and Sonoko just has to bring up Kid the phantom thief. (^^). When Kogoro and Conan get to the bridge that leads to the house they find it ablaze. Conan runs across it after telling Kogoro to bring the police. Conan runs across it calling out for Ran.
And that’s all I’m gonna say on that one except just one thing: Kid the Phantom Thief shows up.
Next one after that is “The Locked Bathroom” which I don’t know too much about. And the one after that one is the “IsolatedCastle” which is a case with the kids. Their involvement in that case gets them to go to the police department to give a statement in a later case but before that case is “Shinichi’s First Case.”
That is really the story of the first case Shinichi solved by himself. It starts when Ran, Kogoro, Conan and the kids (minus Ai) are going on a trip by airplane. When Ayumi mentions Ai Ran asks who she is. Ayumi innocently says the new cute girl in the class. She turns to Conan and remarks that he never tells her anything about school. Anyway they board the plane and Ayumi is sitting by the window and tells Conan to see how the buildings are getting smaller only to find that he is asleep. Ran softly shushes Ayumi and tells her Conan was up the night before read. She talks off his glasses and laughs to herself, remembering what happened on her trip with Shinichi to Los Angeles (where his parents live) the year before. Shinichi instantly fell asleep after getting on the plane. Kogoro remembers and asks her, even though she’s said that the trip was innocent, if Shinichi did anything to her. Ran gives him a half-lidded glare. The kids are listening at that point and he barks at them to sit down. Ran decides to go to sleep; she woke up early for karate practice. Now after that page, it’s all Ran dreaming of the memory with Gosho’s additions so that the readers can try figuring out the mystery that happens (^^). Yep you guessed it someone died. Ran turns to Shinichi after waking up to find that he’s not there. She stand up and looks around to see Inspector Megure whose also on the plane. She asks him if it’s true that someone is dead. He tells her not to worry that the police will take care of it. When Megure gets to the scene he asks the attendant if anyone has touched the body. She replies that yes, a strange youth did. Megure forces his way into the bathroom where the strange youth is still looking at the body, he asks the youth who he is as he turns him around. Ran stands there kind of amazed as Shinichi introduces himself as “Kudo Shinichi, I’m a detective.” Megure of course knows the name because Yusaku is his friend. The last time he saw Shinichi, however was when Shinichi was in 6th grade. (The way he automatically knew Ran in the beginning makes it seem as if Ran knows Megure better than Shinichi at that time.) After that happy moment of remembering each other Megure tries throwing Shinichi out of the area of the bathroom only to find out that Shinichi has done the first part of the investigation. After explaining what he’s found out Megure tells him he’s investigated enough.
Ran starts grilling him on how he was acting. Shinichi says he has to act like that or they won’t take him seriously. She tells him next time at least tell her where he’s going or she’s going to think he’s dead. Shinichi then says he doesn’t want to wake and ignorant looking woman and makes fun of how she looked as she was asleep. Then Takagi gets there (^^ yay Takagi!) and when Takagi finds out about the “youth” Megure points out Shinichi and tells him that Shinichi’s father used to help him with hard cases and as a kid Shinichi would follow Yusaku to the crime scenes. Takagi gets excited and thinks why not let him help us. Megure says Shinichi is just a teenager and that they have to find who has gone to the restroom in the past two hours. Guess who knows (^^). When Ran finds out she asks him why he’s been awake he laughs it off. The real reason he was awake brings a blush to his cheeks (Ran had leaned on him and was breathing near his face “I’m only normal…”). So Shinichi points out the suspects and the case is underway. Though it does come up repeatedly when they can’t find the murder weapon if Shinichi is sure that those are the only suspects (his attention was partly on Ran after all ^^). At one point one of the suspects insults Shinichi and Ran asks Shinichi if he should yell at the guy for him. (Cute!). As Shinichi has figured it out he has to ask Ran something.
“Ran you’re mature right?”
“What? Of course.”
“Then let me ask you something.” (The next panel shows Ran blushing as Shinichi is asking her something.)
Shinichi, after Ran’s answer understand how the murder happened and starts to explain it. The murder weapon turned out to be something only women have, that can pass through the metal detector. The other girl suspect immediately knows what he means as she turns to her friend. It was the wire in her bra, she sharpened it and killed him.
As Ran is waking up she starts talking her sleep saying “Why did he say “Lend me your bra. Is there a wire inside?” Why would someone ask a girl that! Shinichi must have wanted to sexually harass me!” Conan is awake and looks at Ran known she’s dreaming of last year’s case. Kogoro starts trying to wake up Ran asking her “Did that guy do anything to you?” the flight attendants are asking him to sit down and he yells “You idiot! This is concerning my daughter’s chastity!” All in all a funny ending.
After that is the beginning of the “Metropolitan Police Love Story” but I just call the case “Sakurada Gate (Sato and Takagi).” The kids are being questioned on the IsolatedCastle case. When Takagi is just about to start asking them questions they notice the button on his shirt is falling off, his collar is dirty, the shirt is kinda wrinkled, and then Ayumi asks him “Don’t you have a girlfriend?” He says he already has someone, or at least someone he likes. That’s when Sato comes in and they notice him blushing and Ayumi assumes she must be Takagi’s girlfriend. Genta is surprised Takagi can bring his girlfriend to work. Sato laughs and introduces herself, she’s a police woman in the Investigation Bureau.
(Note on that: there hadn’t been any police women in the story before hand and in Japanese culture when a woman marries she usually doesn’t continue working meaning here Sato is unmarried and this is a turning point for women in the story, being a bigger part in the investigations. What does get me a little steamed is the idea of a girlfriend doing her boyfriend’s laundry. That is not what girlfriends are for!(steaming!))
Anyway, Takagi heard from the Traffic Cop Yumi that Sato likes someone in the Investigation Bureau. A murder comes up and Conan tags along behind Sato and Takagi. Sato thinks Conan is just so smart and assures him that if he becomes an officer they’ll take good care of him. Just then Superintendent Shiratori comes in. And from this point on everyone knows he is Takagi’s rival for Sato. We get some funny scenes of Takagi freaking out. Anyway besides that it’s just the case which Conan helps them figure out. (Look ma no stun watch!) In the end, Shiratori asks Sato out to a French restaurant, she declines by lying that she doesn’t like French food. She admits to Takagi she’s not picky except she prefers cheaper places where you can be you and then asks Takagi if he wants to go to a noodle stand nearby. He’s like really happy (and cute Takagi is always cute!) but then Inspector Megure comes up behind them asking Sato to a bar to celebrate the cases being shut. She invites Takagi but he remembers that he still has the kids to question. By then it’s already 10 pm. (Poor Takagi… don’t worry Takagi she doesn’t like the Inspector ^_- he’s strictly a father figure).
After that is “Heiji and Kazuha in Tokyo.” So Ran, Kogoro and Conan have just picked up Heiji and Kazuha and are going shopping in Shibuya, actually just Ran and Kazuha the rest go off somewhere (away from women shopping) ^^. Well anyway Kazuha is kinda sulking while with Ran and Ran does get it out of her. Both Ran and Heiji are wearing stripes and Kazuha is jealous, because it’s not the first time as Ran and Heiji were both wearing black turtlenecks. Ran doesn’t mind changing her shirt. (If you notice though both Ran and Conan were wearing strips first (Conan’s are under his sweater)). As usual some case comes up and it gets solved with a couple of cute things but this is already so long I’m skipping to the one at the end. Ran forces Kazuha to wear a pinstriped shirt like Heiji’s. Kazuha says she’ll go change (her cheeks are so red ^^) but Heiji says it’s okay, he doesn’t mind… because it’s funny, they look like brother and sister. (Aho Heiji!)
The next case is “Dad’s Unfinished Novel” and goes like this… Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are traveling up to Hokkaido to see Hatamoto Natsue and Takeshi. In the hallway when heading to the dining car a man runs into Kogoro and runs off when he realizes who Kogoro is. In the dining car they meet a few people and a woman who did have reservations for dinner decides to cancel and go back to her room. Turns out the circumstances of what has happened are similar to a novel that Shinichi remembers from long ago, when he was a child the first time. A gunshot rings and a scream pierces the silence of the car after Conan remembers that line of the novel. The murderer disappears without a trace. It is a novel that Yusaku wrote long ago, that was unpublished because the manuscript was stolen. The case goes on and it turns out the woman who cancelled dinner was Yukiko. Both Yusaku and her took different trains to see if they could prevent the murder because everything had been going on just like the novel. She failed because at the time she went to the restroom. She starts crying when he makes it seem like the guy died because of her. Shin-chan immediately says I didn’t say that. A lot of good stuff happens and I’m gonna have to let you read this one because writing out the scene that Yusaku comes in… I don’t think it would be good enough. Mind you he was there for about five minutes before he did anything (Cocky writers ><.)
The next one I like to call “Sonoko and Makoto” and it starts as all of the cases when its just Ran, Sonoko and Conan – Sonoko set to get Ran a boyfriend or find or for herself. They’re at the beach and Sonoko’s been camera happy and so she’s been taking pictures of couples and making fun of them. Then she takes a picture of Ran’s bottom while Ran was adjusting her swim suit. Sonoko says it’ll make Shinichi happy when he gets back. Conan immediately thinks “I have to get back to normal quickly!”
When a guy comes over to talk to them and asks for Sonoko, because he’s sure she can make him forget his light-brown haired girlfriend that left him. For some reason Conan is immediately suspicious of the guy’s intentions (well it’s true, most of the guys do look at Ran first). Anyway they go to lunch with the guy. At the restaurant the waiter is a bit rude to the guy talking to Sonoko. His name is Kyogoku Makoto and Ran’s sure he’s familiar from somewhere. The camera comes up when they plan to go to a seafood place to take pictures because it’s haunted. Sonoko says maybe Shinichi will understand, and they’re going to show him the “shock” picture anyway. Ran says Shinichi won’t know who’s in it but Sonoko says she’s pretty sure that with his detective skills he’ll figure it out.
What has been going at the beach resort are murders of women with light-brown hair found with their stomachs opened. Sonoko gets scared cause her hair is that color but Tadahiko, that’s the name of the guy, says he will protect her. Later that day it begins to rain as they are waiting outside for Tadahiko to pick them up to go to the seafood place. While they are waiting Makoto silently places and umbrella outside for them. Conan teases her by saying that maybe he likes her. Sonoko realizes she forgot her wallet and goes in to get it. In the room is an intruder who silences Sonoko and is about to stab her when Ran comes up. He leaves just as Ran enters. Sonoko says she knows it’s a man because of his hairy arm (she bit at it in an attempt to get away). Tadahiko comes in and Conan asks him to take off his shirt to check for a bite mark. There isn’t one. Makoto comes in asking what’s happened. He has a bandage around his arm. Sonoko doesn’t think it was him because the arm was very hairy and Makoto claims the injury is from a drunkard that day. He changes their room and reminds them to lock the doors and windows. The camera was found open. And Conan fears that the serial murderer thinks Sonoko has taken a compromising picture. The next morning they go out to breakfast and Sonoko stays in the car to sleep.
Ran, Conan and Tadahiko go into eat. And a man who has been appearing where they are at stops in front of the car. The next panel shows Makoto coming into the restaurant to eat. Conan then notices the car moving. The bad thing is that it’s headed to the end of a cliff… Conan while running notices lock pick tools on the ground. Ran catches up and bangs on the window trying to wake up Sonoko while running with the car, but she can’t break it in while running. Conan hangs onto the car and looks in the front to notice the hand break is off. Ran orders Conan away from the car. She grabs the rail on the top of the car and swings herself up and then crashes in the window with her knees. Ran is then able to get Sonoko out before it goes over the edge. It becomes apparent that someone is trying to kill Sonoko.
After a quick investigation they begin to walk back to the inn with Tadahiko accompanying them. The man who earlier stopped in front of the car when Sonoko was sleeping is noticed and Tadahiko assumes they are being followed. They begin to run for it into the woods and split up. It turns out that the man “following” them is an officer investigating Tadahiko but hasn’t had enough evidence to take him in for questioning. Conan asks Ran if people who wear sandals don’t usually wear socks. Ran agrees and Conan runs knowing what is about to happen.
Sonoko pulls down Tadahiko’s sock after he complains of a branch that cut him. She see a bite and immediately steps away from him. He notices and tells her she shouldn’t be surprised as he pulls out that shiny knife. (Poor poor frozen Sonoko.) He thinks she has a picture of him committing a murder (when it’s really just a sexy shot). Ran is running with the officer and finds out he’s killed four women and used ice to park the car. It melted and the car moved. Tadahiko is killing women because his ex-girlfriend had light-brown hair and he can’t stand to see women with hair like that. Sonoko is crying as Tadahiko is holding her down about to stab her, asking God why all men that she meets are terrible. She hears the sound of the knife cutting through flesh. She opens her eyes and sees Makoto above her, the knife stuck in his arm. Tadahiko on the ground after Makoto hit him in the face with a jab from his elbow. Tadahiko gets up and tried to attack Makoto, only breaking his glasses because of Makoto’s fast dodge. Suddenly Ran remembers who Makoto is as they run over to where Sonoko is. Makoto was at a tournament, he goes to HaidoHigh School and is in their karate club and is called “The Prince of Kicks.” He was always around keeping an eye on her because he remembered seeing her at on of Ran’s tournaments cheering for Ran with all her heart. He pays her a compliment along the lines of “you’re very pretty so there is no reason to wear revealing outfits.” When they get back they find out Makoto went to study abroad but Sonoko says she’ll wait forever for Makoto. Three days later Sonoko’s asking Ran to come and see the Baseball clubs training match. Ran isn’t too surprised.
The next one is called “Movie Theater Murder” and the only thing that is really funny in there is that while watching a Godzilla movie marathon Ayumi falls asleep and leans on Conan and while Conan is talking to Haibara on the other side he realizes she’s also asleep as she leans on him. He wonders if he has to stay there.
The one after that one is called “The Gray Planner” and it’s a Heiji case with Kogoro and Ran and Conan, and it begins with Ran finding a newspaper thing advertising a free trip if they can solve the riddle and present the object when they board. It’s a bit of a complicated case oh and once on board we get Ran copying Jack from Titanic by saying “I’m the King of the World.” Conan meanwhile thinks “What if you sink stupid! Besides you should say queen.” Heiji is pushed overboard at one point during the investigation and doesn’t show up again until the end.
But the most important part of the case is the scene when Ran finds Conan after he was investigating by himself.
“You’re always making people worry like that,” says Ran.
“Sorry,” Conan holds up his hands in apology.
“I’m begging you… don’t go off by yourself anymore.” She looks at him concerned and Conan looks up at her unsure of what to say. After that she grabs his hand blushing and tells him she was scared because the ship is scary and she had to look for him by herself.
(If you haven’t noticed it’s been there since the Shinichi Discovered file that Ran is still suspicious of Conan, but hasn’t admitted it to herself completely.)
The next file after that one I don’t have but after that we get “The Introduction of Dr. Araide.” Now Dr. Araide is a very nice person… just read ^^. It begins with Conan talking on the phone to Ran using the bowtie to sound like his real self. However, when ever he calls her recently she’ll cut the conversation short instead of her usual “Shinichi…” and pleading for him to come home. Now she’ll go out to the gym in the evening and return late at night. But the thing that bothers Shinichi/Conan is that she’ll hum a song as she heads to the gym, which makes him very suspicious.
One day Kogoro is asked by his doctor to bring his family to he receive the results of his exam. Turns out the doctor Araide needs Kogoro to stop drinking for half a year because his liver is pretty messed up. (No the Araide I just mentioned is not the one that is being introduced.) As the doctor goes out to answer the phone Ran takes the opportunity to use the restroom. On her way back from the restroom she bumps into someone, knocking all his papers to the floor. While helping him pick up his papers his hand rests on hers as they reach for the same piece of paper. He asks her who she is, she tells him and he tells her who he is – Araide Tomoaki. (This Araide ^^!!!) They are invited to dinner by the elder Araide when he finds out who Kogoro is and wants to discuss medicine with him. Conan’s like, “No the fool knows nothing about medicine!” and tries to get Kogoro to decline by bringing up the fact that Ran has karate practice. (Poor naïve Conan). Ran replies brightly “Of course we’ll stay, it’s okay not to practice for today.”
During dinner they find out Araide went to Tokyo university and Kogoro asks him jokingly if he’s interested in Ran. She immediately blushes. Conan glares.
(In Japan its not uncommon for men in their 20’s to date high school students.)
After that they talk more at after Araide says something really nice (A doctor’s duty, like me, is not to identify the murderer, but to save the victim to prevent the murder.) Conan sees Ran kind of staring at Araide. As they rise from the dinner table the power goes out. When it comes back on Ran is embarrassed to find out that the arm she was holding onto in the dark that she thought was her father’s was Araide’s. He says it’s okay. They get to the bathroom to find the older Araide dead. The police get there and it turns out he was killed by a shaver falling into the bathtub. But what is odd is that the shaver is off. It turns out to be a murder case but before I explain the details I have to say something quickly.
Dr. Araide is the temporary Basketball Coach at TeitanHigh School from 5 to 7 pm. Conan starts thinking that the reason Ran must be practicing late is to see Araide. (Very worried not quite jealous Shinichi here. And in a much later case you’ll find out why he’s not jealous, not if it seems like Ran really likes Araide.) Turns out she just wanted a chance alone with him to ask him for his sweater, she’s knitting one for Shinichi.
It was Ms. Hiraku who pulled the trigger to the circuit breaker, but the planner and executer of the murder was Araide Yoko (elder Araide’s 2nd wife). When the power went off, Yoko used a flashlight to get to the bathroom and connected the cord that went into the shaver and put it into the bathtub. When the power came back on for an instant he died. She used a cordless phone to establish the alibi. Kogoro cuts her a deal because it was Ms. Hiraku who made the murder actually happen because of the circuit breaker. Kogoro (Conan) doesn’t want her to know, otherwise she might commit suicide out of depression. Better to tell everyone that Yoko gave the older Araide a sleeping pill and put him in the bathtub that was filled. Then she put the shaver into the bathtub. It suggests that the doctor lost his life at the first black out. And that during the black out she collected back the evidence. She agrees and the file on that case is recorded as agreed.
The case after that is “Returning to Sherry” which is a run in with the Black Organization. Conan and Ai, whose having a cold, are walking home when Ai recognizes Gin’s car. (A Porsche 356A). Conan calls Agasa and Agasa brings him a wire coat hanger so he can break into the car. As they get into the car Ai spots Gin and Vodka coming their way. Ai and Agasa get into the VW and Conan watches them leave and turns on his glasses. The tracer blinking on glasses. (The tracers now also serve as listening devices). As they start following them Ai objects telling Conan it’s dangerous. He yells at her that she’s annoying. He listens to Gin talking, there is a target for assassination and he is telling Pisco how to do it, use the drug if he struggles. It will happen at the Haido Hotel. Gin then finds a strand of Ai’s hair and then the tracer. He destroys it.
Gin quickly catches on that Sherry is somewhere nearby. He’s sure she wants the drug. He’s sure her appearance is still the same, check the organization’s computer. (They have a database.)
Conan and Ai enter the hotel party. Everyone is wearing Black. Ai freezes as she remembers a dream she had recently (Gin finding her and killing everyone.) When she describes it to Conan, he takes off his glasses and puts them on her and tells her “Did you know, if you wear them, no one will recognize you… Even a demon can become an angel right?”
She replies saying “Then you without glasses makes you Superman right?”
At the party many famous people are there including the American actress Chris Vineyard as well as the top of the business world. They spot the man who is to be assassinated. Megure shows up after a call told him that the politician will be targeted. Just as Conan thinks he has the edge the lights are turned off for a slideshow. Suddenly a scream rings out and as the lights come on we find the politician dead under the chandelier. Megure begins investigating and Conan finds a bit of the chandelier hook as well as a handkerchief. As Conan realizes that only certain people have certain colored handkerchiefs they exit to see if they can find a list that indicates what color what people got. On exiting the door is surrounded by reporters and someone inside the party recognizes Ai for who she really is. Conan finds out there are seven people with handkerchiefs. Suddenly everyone is coming out of the party when Megure says it looks like an accident, when Conan turns to Ai he finds her gone. Someone picked her up and knocked her out with chloroform.
She wakes up at the basement/ wine cellar of the hotel. No one is there with her. Luckily the computer Pisco used to look her up is still there. Conan tells Ai he already called Megure as Kudo so that they would further investigate the people with purple handkerchiefs, and that Pisco is one of them. Conan tries to convince her to try to escape but the fire escape is to large and she won’t be able to climb out. Conan then asks her if any Chinese Sake there. She finds it and he tells her to drink some. Conan helps her figure out the password to the Black Org. database (Shelling Ford and means experimental detective.) Suddenly Conan sees Gin and Vodka park and head into the hotel. The computer Ai is using must have a tracer on it. Conan tells Ai she’s endanger but she’s already felling the effects of transforming. He calls Megure to not let them in but with so many people there they can’t stop them. Gin and Vodka get into the wine cellar but Sherry is already up the fireplace, transformed and dressed in a janitors coveralls. Gin finds something. Conan figures out what happened after seeing some pictures on the internet and talks with Megure as he runs into the hotel leaving Agasa to talk to Ai. As she’s catching her breath she’s suddenly shot from behind…
Gin found a strand of her hair and could hear her breathing in the fireplace. He decided to come up to the roof, after all the trouble of finding her, he thought about letting her die beautifully. “White snow floating amidst the dark night, letting blood color it all crimson.”
Inside the hotel Conan finds out where the room is but fears Ai maybe discovered in her child state. His pocket phone rings.
Sherry is shot through the leg and shoulders. A bullet grazes her face.
Agasa tells Conan Gin and Vodka are on the roof. Conan hurries up racing against time.
Vodka is surprised she is still breathing after being shot so heavily. Gin replies that he will send her on a trip to see her dead sister.
Conan fires a needle from his watch at Gin but hides before they see him. He uses the bowtie and tells her to go down the chimney. Vodka fires at the entrance to the roof, but he turns as he realizes she’s getting away. She’s shot in the back and falls down the chimney.
Gin is fighting the effects of the needle and shoots himself so he doesn’t loose consciousness.
Down in the basement Sherry is turning back into Ai, and Pisco watches.
“You don’t seem to remember me, but I was a friend of you’re parents when you were young. I heard about them trying to develop a drug. But I never thought you could do it… you’re parents would have been proud of you. But this is an order, don’t blame me Miss Sherry.”
Suddenly Conan comes in and speaks to him using the bow-tie and then reveals himself.
Pisco accidentally lights the area around himself ablaze and Conan uses the opportunity to grab Ai and hide. Suddenly Gin comes out of the chimney with a gun at Pisco’s head.
Turns out the man who took the picture of an affair in a crowd caught one of Pisco firing the gun. Gin has to kill him. Pisco tells him if he’s killed Gin won’t know where Sherry is and there are consequences for killing an old member of the organization. Gin breaks the news to him, there was an order for Pisco’s death. And silence goes with the gun with the silencer.
Thankfully no one knows of their secret…
Gin and Vodka are speaking as they drive away.
Vodka: So we don’t have to look for that girl anymore?
Gin: It’ll be a waste of time, she’s faraway now with the one who rescued her. She wouldn’t be stupid enough to stay where she’s seen us.
“You know her well,” says a shadowed feminine figure in the back.
Gin: Sorry Belmont/Vermouth (not sure of which one I’m supposed to use because this file was translated from Chinese ^^*) Only that old idiot would make you come all the way over here. And you were stupid enough to come.
Vermouth: I had to give him my handkerchief before the investigation. He deserved to die. By the way did you take notice of that boy with that girl?
Gin: Yes the boy who carried her, I want to see him again.
Vermouth: That look on his face.
Vodka: Don’t you want to go back to the US?
Vermouth: No I need to rest awhile.
The panel underneath shows the American actress Chris Vineyard, “I want to stay in Japan for a while… there are some things I need to take care of.”
The death of the politician when unsolved… and Ai warns Shinichi not to be swayed to tell Ran his secret – she would only be a target.
On a brighter note-
The next file after that one is with Conan, Ran and Sonoko who go ice skating. It begins with Sonoko gushing over guys, but then Ran reminds her of Makoto. Sonoko admits she hasn’t heard a word from him and that Ran should not group her with her. Sonoko teases Ran about waiting for her husband and Ran says she’s not waiting for Shinichi. Sonoko smirks and says she never mentioned Shinichi. (^^). Well then they turn to Conan asking him if he knows how to ice skate. He falls over, even though as Shinichi he used to be fully able to. Ran takes his hand as helps him up until someone crashes into them. As always they have a knack for getting to know people and someone dying. Conan rushes over to where he heard Sonoko scream and Ran watches him, an expression of uncertainty on her face. There isn’t another cute moment until the end when Makoto calls Sonoko, telling her he won the tournament – she interrupts him calling him stupid and asking why didn’t he call. He tells her he heard a lot of people are catching colds in Japan so she shouldn’t wear her mini-skirts. She tells him she’s wearing a long on (an obvious lie.) Ran watches Sonoko smiling and says to Conan that she knew Sonoko bought a phone just to talk to Makoto. Ran gushes over it, how it’s romantic and Conan looks at Ran surprised. A few days later he sent Ran a cell phone, at first she looked at it surprised but then walked off whistling happily.
The case after that one is an important Heiji and Kazuha file called “SpiderMansion.” It’s a great case and I really don’t want to spoil it but will tell you it has many Heiji and Kazuha moments and of course at one points are favorite threesome show up (Kogoro, Ran and Conan). At one point Ran thinks she’s lost the charm to her cell phone and doesn’t want to go out to look for it, but Kazuha knows it’s from Shinichi so they go out and look for it anyway… putting them in very much danger. Much later after that there is a scene when Heiji asks Kazuha to take of her clothes. Needless to say, he gets hit for it ^^.
End of Part 2
Next time we will definitely get the Desperate Revival, the SunsetMansion (with Kaitou Kid) and God-willing Chinese Deja-vu and the Golden Apple!
